TORRANCE, Calif. – May 13, 2016 – Keenan, the largest privately held insurance brokerage and consulting firm in California, has announced hitting the two-millionth course completion milestone in its Keenan SafeSchools online training program. This landmark comes on the heels of the program surpassing the one-million mark in mid-2015.
A significant contributor to this achievement has been Assembly Bill 1432, the statutory requirement of Mandated Reporter: Child Abuse and Neglect Training and several other trainings, tools and resources. These trainings are provided through Keenan Abuse Prevention Center resources, which are offered to all California schools at no cost. There are some 580,000 school employees in the state who are required to take the Mandated Reporter training course, and more than 40 percent have received training through the Keenan program.
The course was introduced in early 2015 and is fully compliant with the requirements of California Assembly Bill 1432, which imposed a mandated reporter training obligation on all school districts, county offices of education, state special schools and diagnostic centers operated by the California Department of Education, and charter schools and their school personnel in California.
“Mandated reporter training is essential to keeping our children and our schools safe and making sure school personnel know their responsibilities for protecting our children from predators,” said Assemblyman Mike Gatto, the state legislator who introduced AB 1432. “I applaud Keenan for creating their SafeSchools program and for working with faculty and school employees to prepare them to protect students.”
Keenan SafeSchools, a comprehensive online safety training and tracking system, was introduced in 2008 with 80 online courses. Today, the program offers more than 200 courses and provides schools with important resources for training employees in areas of safety and regulatory compliance that can be deployed efficiently and cost-effectively as a turnkey solution. All courses are written by expert authors and are set in a school environment. A Compliance Management System automatically tracks and reports on each employee as they complete their training assignments.
“Effective and timely training is absolutely vital to avoiding unnecessary impacts, cost and otherwise, from situations involving workers’ compensation claims or abuse situations,” said John Stephens, Senior Vice President and Property & Casualty Practice Leader for Keenan. “Our fundamental goal with Keenan SafeSchools has always been to equip administrators, faculty and all other school employees with the tools to proactively acquire education and training to make the school environment as safe as possible for them and the students they serve.”
