California’s State Health Insurance Exchange (Covered California) opened its doors to the public on October 1, 2013. Californians looking to take advantage of federal subsidies and standardized health plan features can now shop for health insurance through the Covered California marketplace. Due to unexpected complications, Californians will have to delay their shopping if they want to be sure the health insurance plans sold through Covered California will let them keep their current doctor.
When Covered California opened its doors it had a directory to help shoppers determine which health insurance plans would allow them to keep their current doctor. Covered California has been forced to disable the directory because it is not working. You may wish to inform your early retirees or any current employees considering buying coverage through Covered California that they may be unable to verify if they can keep their current doctor until Covered California’s provider location directory is fixed.
