Supporting Student Mental Health in Partnership with NAMI and ACSA
For many educators, the school day is about much more than lesson plans and assignments. It is about noticing when a student seems withdrawn, checking in when something feels off, and being a trusted adult during moments that matter most. As student mental health needs continue to grow, these everyday interactions have taken on even greater importance.
Across the country, youth are facing increasing mental health challenges. One in six young people experiences a mental health condition each year, and in 2025, 40 percent of U.S. high school students reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. These challenges often show up quietly, through changes in behavior, mood, or engagement. School staff are uniquely positioned to notice these early signs because of their regular, daily connections with students. Recognizing a concern is only the first step. Knowing how to respond, how to start a conversation, and how to guide a student toward support can feel overwhelming, especially without the right tools or training. That is where education, awareness, and partnership become critical.
At Keenan, we believe supporting student mental health is a shared responsibility. That is why we are proud to partner with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to bring this important conversation to school communities across California through a webinar featuring NAMI’s Ending the Silence for School Staff program. This evidence‑based presentation helps educators better understand common youth mental health conditions, recognize warning signs, and approach students who may be struggling with confidence and care, while also emphasizing the importance of partnering with families and connecting students to appropriate resources so they are not navigating challenges alone.
