Strengthening Safety Year Round: Reflecting on Child Abuse Prevention Month

June 03, 2026 by Keenan

Although April’s Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month has passed, our commitment to protecting children continues every day of the year. At Keenan, we are proud to stand with school communities as they work to recognize, prevent, and respond to child abuse—not just during CAP Month, but in every interaction that shapes a safe learning environment.

Each year, Keenan, in partnership with the Regional Liability Excess Fund (ReLiEF) Joint Powers Authority (JPA) and the California School Boards Association, leads statewide efforts to promote awareness and provide meaningful resources to support child abuse prevention. It’s a cause we are deeply invested in and one we champion year round.

This year’s Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign was one of our most impactful to date. Through our Child Abuse Prevention Resource Page, educators had access to practical tools designed to support awareness and prevention efforts, including our Microlearning Series. These short, scenario-based videos help staff recognize concerning behaviors and reinforce appropriate professional boundaries.

To help districts raise awareness on their campuses and across digital platforms, we also provided complimentary promotional kits, shareable content for social media, printable materials and posts for their websites. Schools used these resources in creative ways to spark conversations and keep student safety top of mind throughout the month.

To spark engagement, we once again held a statewide challenge with an opportunity to win an educational grant from ReLiEF. Participants entered by watching our featured video, 5 Things You Should Know About Child Abuse Prevention. Additional entries were earned by submitting photos showcasing how districts were recognizing CAP Month. The response was tremendous, with more than 1,000 participants engaging with the video and an inspiring number of photo submissions. This level of participation reflects the unwavering dedication of educators and administrators to student safety and proactive prevention.

We are excited to recognize the four recipients of this year’s educational grants:

Congratulations to these districts for their leadership and continued commitment to student well being.

As we look ahead, we encourage all school communities to keep the momentum going. Our Child Abuse Prevention Resource Page remains available year round to support ongoing prevention efforts and reinforce safe practices.

To everyone who participated in this year’s campaign, thank you. Your engagement makes a meaningful difference. Together, we are building safer, more supportive learning environments where every child feels protected, empowered, and heard.
