The Affordable Care Act (ACA) establishes Health Insurance Marketplaces (also called Exchanges), which are entities operated in each state that are designed to create a more organized and competitive market for health insurance.  California was the first state to enact legislation under the ACA to establish an Exchange.

Covered California

Covered California is the state-based Exchange for California, through which legal residents of California can compare plans, learn if they qualify for premium tax credits and cost-sharing subsidies and find out if they are eligible for programs like Medi-Cal.
