IRS Updates ACA Q&As

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently updated several of its Affordable Care Act Tax Provision Q & A’s.  Of particular interest is an update to its Q & A on the Employer Mandate.  In Q & A number 56, the IRS confirms they will begin sending letters in early 2017 to notify employers about potential penalties for the 2015 calendar year and will send letters later in 2017 for potential penalties for the 2016 calendar year.  Employers will have an opportunity to respond to the letters before penalties are assessed or a notice and demand for payment is made.
