Two New Opportunities to Attend CAJPA Conference

CAJPA recently established the John Keenan Memorial Scholarship program to provide two paid registrations including travel expenses each year to the California Association of Joint Powers Authorities (CAJPA) Annual Conference. This new program commemorates the pioneering innovation of our company founder, John R. Keenan, in creating JPAs for risk sharing and pooled purchasing of coverage by public agencies. John believed strongly in the JPA model for helping schools, cities, counties and other public entities to expand their resources and dollars toward risk management success. He was also a long-term supporter of CAJPA.

blog_cajpaThis new scholarship is available to individuals who are committed to professional development toward serving in a public agency, and would not otherwise have reimbursement for Conference attendance through their public agency. Such situations may include unavailability of organizational continuing education or travel funds; or for an individual who is not yet in a position that their agency would normally send that person to the CAJPA Annual Conference, but supports their continuing education.

Applications for the John Keenan Memorial Scholarship are accepted year-round, but for consideration at the June CAJPA Board meeting, the CAJPA office must receive candidate applications by May 31. Forms and more information about the application process are available here on CAJPA’s web site.

Keenan is proud to honor John Keenan’s legacy by supporting future leadership in the organizations our company serves and that stand as foundations in our communities. We encourage all of you who aspire to public service to apply for this opportunity to learn from and network with colleagues at an upcoming CAJPA Annual Conference.
