Keenan Engages Labor Relations Veteran Wiley Jones To Provide Expertise and Support for Teachers Associations in California

TORRANCE, Calif. – May 18, 2015 – Keenan, the largest privately held insurance brokerage and consulting firm in California, has announced that labor relations and union representation veteran Wiley Jones has been engaged to assist with the firm’s labor outreach to the California Teachers Association (CTA) staff and members, as well as other employee organizations.

“We are very pleased to welcome Wiley to the Keenan team. He is known to be a compassionate, thoughtful, fair-minded, and articulate advocate who can help us navigate through the challenges we face with providing high-quality, cost-effective healthcare for working people,” said Steve Balentine, Keenan Vice President for Labor Relations. “He will be a strong asset in helping us work alongside the bargaining groups representing employees who are end users of the benefits programs and services we provide.”

Jones has an extensive background in union representation that spans 42 years in development and training in local, state and national programs as a teachers union president, CTA staff negotiator, organizer, trainer and advocate for union members. He has expertise in public sector negotiations, contract maintenance, arbitrations and member representation service for bargaining unit members.

For example, his expertise was utilized in the CTA Negotiations and Organizational Development Department (NODD) to support its consultant staff in bargaining development as well as assisting at the bargaining table with negotiations, mediation, fact-finding and post fact-finding. The assignment also included development of programs, trainings and workshops to assist the local chapter with organizational development.

“I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Keenan on meeting the unions’ needs and expectations on every level, especially the field level where important decisions are being made every day that impact the lives of members,” Jones noted. “We will work together to ensure that the employee organizations are well informed with timely, useful and relevant information that will assist leadership in their responsibilities regarding employee benefits, health insurance, health care reform, workers’ compensation issues and problem solving.”

In addition to his experience as CTA NODD Specialist, Jones has served in a wide range of CTA-associated primary contact staff and executive director positions for Glendora (regional office), Downey/San Dimas (regional office), Chino and Compton as well as with the Texas State Teachers Association as executive director for Classroom Teachers of Dallas.
