Based on extensive research and the presenter’s experience working with schools that have experienced a variety of crisis events, this session provided easy to apply and tangible life-saving concepts that can be applied to any type of school crisis event. This interactive session utilized potent and unforgettable crisis scenarios based on real incidents that occur every day in schools across the country to show how there are potentially deadly gaps in the ways that schools prepare for and respond to dangerous situations. The session showed how research-based concepts like controlled breathing, pattern matching and recognition, mental simulation and prioritization can be incorporated into school climate and culture to help school staff learn how to make more effective decisions in the crucial first 30 seconds of a life or death incident.
