October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Seven years ago, fellow Keenan associate Jeannine Clair recruited me to participate in the Revlon Breast Cancer Run/Walk after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Another staffer, Mary Boyer, joined us a few years later after she too was diagnosed. Together we decided to have a little fun with this annual event and wear something humorous every year. Last year it was fluorescent pink wigs, and this year it was pink cowboy hats and tutus. We did turn a few heads.
Earlier this year, the three of us participated in the 20th Annual Revlon Run/Walk at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at Exposition Park. Women from all over joined together to raise money and to create awareness in the fight against women’s cancers. It was and always is amazing to see thousands of people from all walks of life assembling on this day in Los Angeles for a cause that has impacted so many people in one way or other.
Keenan has been very supportive of our efforts to raise money for the Run/Walk by matching the funds that are donated to us. Our co-workers have continued to support us as well. Every year, we surpass the previous year’s donation level. This year, we donated over $7,000.
Over the years, many people in our company have been either diagnosed with breast cancer themselves or have been affected by it in some way. Some have been caregivers and some have been supportive friends. We do this for them! But we also have fun and raise money for a wonderful cause. We encourage you to get involved and find out whether your employer offers a matching donation to further support your efforts.
