Policymakers have been worried that not enough “young invincibles” will purchase coverage from the State Health Insurance Exchanges when they open for business on October 1, 2013. A recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation attempts to see if that fear is justified. The study finds that 7 of 10 young adults feel it is very important to have insurance. The study explores why the young adults think insurance coverage is important and what barriers they face in obtaining it. The study provides important insights to employers looking to explain the value of employer sponsored insurance to their younger employees.
