The Tuesday following Thanksgiving, November 30, will mark the tenth annual observance of Giving Tuesday – a day that encourages people to do good. GivingTuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Over the past decade, individuals, community groups, companies and organizations have provided funds, food, shelter, comfort and service to meet the needs of others.

We invite everyone to share their generosity on Giving Tuesday. You can visit the www.GivingTuesday.org web site to donate to a cause of your choice or find a way to serve in your own community. You don’t have to wait until November 30 – the web site and the opportunities to contribute are there every day.

Here at AP Keenan, we’re proud of the generous spirit of our associates throughout the year. Recently, our employees conducted a Thanksgiving Drive to support the Volunteer Center-South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach in their efforts to fill their shelves for their Food for Kids Program pantry. While low-income students receive school-provided meals for breakfast and lunch during the week, many of their families are unable to feed them adequately on the weekends. The Food for Kids Program assembles and delivers bags of food filled with items to make two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners for families in need, prior to the weekend.

Through our “Drive Thru/Drop Off” Thanksgiving Drive, held on November 3rd, we collected a whopping 897 pounds of food and earned the title of “Top Corporate Donor,” helping the Volunteer Center exceed their goal by more than 50%! Along with the help from other organizations and individuals in the surrounding community, our food donation made it possible to provide more than 17,000 meals for local families experiencing food insecurity at local schools, shelters, and nonprofits.

Here are a few photos from the collection event. Thanks to everyone who took part in organizing, packing and donating!

As we approach this winter season of celebration and giving, Keenan wishes all of you safe and happy holidays.
