Keenan Raises Over $30,000 to Fund Meals for Those in Need During COVID-19 Crisis Through Feeding Children Everywhere Non-Profit

August 19, 2020

TORRANCE, Calif. – August 19, 2020 – Keenan, an industry-leading California insurance brokerage and consulting firm for public agencies and health care organizations, conducted a special employee fundraising campaign to support families who are experiencing a loss of income and struggling to make ends meet during the COVID-19 crisis, through a partnership with Feeding Children Everywhere.

“Many of our friends and neighbors are struggling in one way or another due to the pandemic. Food insecurity is at an all-time high, so we decided to organize a fund drive to support local schools that were distributing food in their communities,” said Sean Smith, CEO. “The response from our employees was overwhelming.”

The Keenan fundraising effort ran for two weeks. During that short period of time, Keenan employees raised more than $20,000. In addition, the company matched the first $10,000 and covered all of the transaction fees for a total of more than $30,000 raised. That amount provided 800 cartons of food, each containing meal kits, grocery items, side dishes, snacks and fresh produce for about 65 meals. Keenan worked with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) to identify ten school districts to manage the food distribution:

  • Yuba City Unified School District
  • Selma Unified School District
  • Somis Unified School District
  • Humboldt County Office of Education
  • Middletown Unified School District
  • Charter Oak Unified School District
  • Santa Rosa City Schools
  • Anaheim Union High School District
  • Morgan Hill Unified School District
  • Coachella Valley Unified School District

Feeding Children Everywhere is dedicated to the vision of a hunger-free world. Through unique partnerships and innovative distribution programs, families across the world receive nutrition and meals necessary for a healthy lifestyle. The non-profit organization is currently distributing meals through its online domestic distribution program, Full Cart. The organization cites figures from the JP Morgan Chase Institute indicating that more than 65% of families do not have enough money in their bank accounts to make it through a month, a condition made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.
