2018 Keenan Impact Days Focus on Mental Health and Support for Children’s Social and Emotional Learning

TORRANCE, Calif. – September 18, 2018 – Keenan, an industry-leading California insurance brokerage and consulting firm for health care organizations and public agencies, recently conducted its seventh annual Impact Days community service effort with projects benefiting non-profits serving children in northern and southern California. The focus of this year’s Impact Days were mental health and support for children’s social and emotional learning.

Each year, Keenan partners with local and national community organizations to give back to communities that the company serves around the state. Over the course of the three-day event, more than 700 Keenan associates roll up their sleeves to create positive change for those who need it most.

This year’s non-profit beneficiaries included the Volunteer Center in the South Bay; the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sacramento, South Bay and Silicon Valley; and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Empire.

Associated projects included:

  • 4,200 “Operation Teddy Bear” bags with handmade “Rekenrek” counting tools, handmade clocks to teach telling time on a non-digital clock, Teddy bears with a note and STEM kits to teach shapes
  • 5,000 drawstring bags with mindfulness journals with self-esteem prompts, mindful mandala coloring sheets and pencils, handmade magnets, fidget spinners and handmade funny-face stress balls
  • 150 teacher kits for working with kids after school

Dan Keenan, Senior Vice President of the Keenan Financial Services Division, hosted each of the events and noted, “These Impact Days are a reminder to us that we are an integral part of a community, and not just working there.”

In addition to Impact Day, Keenan extends its corporate social responsibility outreach throughout the year  with youth and family programs for mentoring and work-study, school servathons, school supplies, holiday food and toy drives, group volunteering and support for the YMCA Youth & Government initiative.
