UnitedHealth Group confirmed it is leaving California’s individual market in 2017, including Covered California. The carrier announced in April that it will cease to offer plans in most of the 34 Exchanges where it currently operates. At the time of that announcement, it was unclear whether they planned to continue offering plans through Covered California.
UnitedHealth only entered the California Exchange market this year and analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation found the carrier’s exit would have limited impact. Specifically, the analysis shows that a total of 28 counties would see a drop in the number of insurers from three to two. The carrier has approximately 1,200 enrollees through Covered California.
