TORRANCE, Calif. – September 9, 2014 – Keenan, the largest privately held insurance brokerage and consulting firm in California, is significantly expanding its Impact Day community involvement program in its second year. The effort, designed to assist local non-profit organizations and social service agencies, brings together Keenan associates to assemble a wide range of donated goods in conjunction with the company’s annual meeting to be held in Long Beach.
This year will bring three new dimensions to the program:
- Two days of activities in Southern California
- Inclusion of organizations outside the greater Long Beach area
- Expansion to Northern California, where Keenan operates six branch offices
In Southern California, the program will take place at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel on Mon., Sept. 29, and Tues., Sept. 30. It is expected that nearly 500 Keenan associates will participate. Keenan has 675 employees in nine offices in Northern and Southern California. The firm’s headquarters is in Torrance, with additional Southern California offices in Riverside and San Clemente.
“Our inaugural Impact Day last year was a great success. To see a ballroom full of people having so much fun and gaining so much satisfaction from making a difference in people’s lives was truly a memorable experience,” said Keenan President and CEO Sean Smith. “We determined that it was simply an enterprise that needed to be expanded to benefit as many people as we could in the communities we serve. And it has now become a centerpiece of our ongoing corporate social responsibility initiatives.”
Organizations set to benefit from Impact Day in Southern California are:
- Catholic Charities Project Achieve (Long Beach)
- For the Child (Long Beach)
- Long Beach Multi-Service Center (Long Beach)
- Long Beach Rescue Mission (Long Beach)
- Miller Children’s Hospital (Long Beach)
- The Children’s Clinic (Long Beach)
- Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital (San Pedro)
- Torrance Department of Parks & Recreation (Torrance)
- Richstone Family Services (Hawthorne)
- Los Angeles Team Mentoring (Los Angeles)
- Playworks (Los Angeles)
- Riverside Police Officers Association (Riverside)
- San Bernardino Boys & Girls Club (San Bernardino)
- Operation Gratitude (Van Nuys)
The goal of the two-day event is to assemble thousands of items to include: 1,500 boxed lunches; 3,000 toiletry kits; 1,700 backpacks with assorted school items; 750 classroom kits for teachers; 900 paracord bracelets for military troops; 700 fleece “no sew” blankets for children and adults; 600 teddy bears for children; and 5,000 arts and crafts kits for local after-school programs.
Keenan employees and staff at the Renaissance Long Beach are collecting new and gently used clothing and sports equipment, children’s books, and beanie babies and other small plush toys for a total of 17 different activities to benefit the local communities. In addition, the hotel is providing support in the form of food for the boxed lunches and toiletries. Keenan has also reached out to many of its vendors for their support of this initiative, and the response has been very positive. Many have offered products and services, as well as personal time, to help with the projects during Impact Day.
