Covered California Signs Health Contracts

Covered California, the State of California’s health insurance exchange, has announced that twelve health insurance plans have signed contracts to offer coverage through its exchange. The Affordable Care Act mandated the creation of health insurance exchanges. Individuals will be able to purchase health care insurance on these exchanges beginning on October 1, 2013, for an effective date of January 1, 2014.

The following companies will offer plans in Covered California’s individual market:

  • Alameda Alliance for Health
  • Anthem Blue Cross of California
  • Blue Shield of California
  • Chinese Community Health Plan
  • Contra Costa Health Plan
  • Health Net
  • Kaiser Permanente
  • L.A. Care Health Plan
  • Molina Healthcare
  • Sharp Health Plan
  • Valley Health Plan
  • Western Health Advantage

One other company that originally intended to participate, Ventura County Health Care Plan, has elected to not participate in Covered California for 2014.
